Tuk-Tuk Tours — The Right Way

Updated 2026 · Totally Bangkok

How to use Bangkok's iconic three-wheelers for actual exploration, not tourist scams.

The problem

Most tuk-tuks near tourist sites are scam vehicles — driver takes you to gem shops or tailors for commissions; the 'temple tour' for 20 THB is always a con.

The legitimate use

Short hops in the Old City (10–15 minutes, 60–100 THB negotiated), or through organised tuk-tuk tours with vetted drivers.

Organised tuk-tuk night tours

Evening food tours by tuk-tuk are legitimate — driver takes you to local restaurants and street stalls; typically 800–1,500 THB for 3–4 hours including food.

How to avoid scams

Never accept a tuk-tuk driver who approaches you; negotiate price before getting in; if they suggest a 'free' stop, refuse politely and get out.
